There is a growing amount of information available to indicate the condition of your machines and engines, from sources like S·O·S Services, Product Link, VIMS and Cat® Electronic Technician. This information can help you reduce
equipment downtime by helping you schedule maintenance around actual machine condition instead of a fixed-time schedule.
Good data leads to higher machine availability, reduced service time and lower owning and operating costs. How to keep track of all that data? Start by arranging them into five categories:
Fluid analysis
• For oil, coolant and fuel sampling
• Stored in S·O·S Services Web or S·O·S Services Manager
Electronic equipment data
• Live data or logged information downloaded from the Electronic Control Module (ECM) for spotting problems as they occur
• Either live data from Product Link, Cat® Electronic Technician or VIMS (where available) or information stored in the ECM
Equipment inspections
• Information from daily walkarounds, preventive maintenance inspections and technical analyses
• Stored in the Service Technician Workbench
Equipment history
• Service reports and recommendations for maintenance, inspections and repairs
• Stored in Service Technician Workbench (STW), Dealer Business System (DBS) and Service Information Management System (SIMS)
Site conditions
• Climate and seasonal data, job site condition and operational and maintenance practices
• Entered through the software Site Operations and Maintenance Advisor (SOMA)
