Electrical Testing

Thompson Power offers the following Electrical Testing services:

  • Acceptance Testing
Perform NETA recommended tests on a variety of low and medium voltage electrical equipment such as switchgear, cables, transformers, and circuit breakers to insure system integrity before energizing.
  • Thermalgraphic Surveys
Infrared survey utilizing the latest in technology to diagnose loose electrical connections, poor cable terminations and splices, overloads and unbalanced loads, or early bearing failure. Software allows detailed reports with infrared images showing points of concern before costly failure occurs.

  • Cable Testing
Perform megger and high potential testing on low and medium voltage cables.

  • Soil Resistively and Ground Resistance
Insures that the soils properties can support a ground system. Perform three point fall of potential tests on ground rods and system.

  • Transformer Testing
Perform transformer testing to include power factor, turns ratio, megger, oil analysis, and operational checks on transformer alarm and control circuits.

  • Circuit Breaker Testing and Maintenance
Testing and maintenance on low and medium voltage circuit breakers. Tests include contact resistance, megger, high current injection, and secondary injection.
Perform maintenance and cleaning to breakers main contacts, racking and charging mechanisms, interlocks, and other related circuit breaker components.
  • Relay Calibration
Functional testing and calibration of protective relays and metering devices such as voltage and current meters, pressure switches, and controls.

  • Load Surveys
Connect metering device to electrical system to monitor power consumption and document system parameters such as voltage, current, power factor, and other values at specified intervals to help diagnose problems, or plan for equipment upgrades.

  • Load Bank Testing
Resistive or Reactive, utilizing the latest in Simplex technology.

  • Vibration Analysis
Preventing costly bearing or alignment related failures on rotating equipment.

  • Harmonics Testing
Measure and analyze THD (total harmonic distortion) which can cause failures and stress due to the effects of heating caused by harmonics.
