Remote Monitoring

Remote Monitoring

Thompson Power provides optional SCADA (Systems Control And Data Acquisition) packages for our customers. This communications package is available with simple “remote monitoring" or through more detailed active remote control.

Benefits of the SCADA system include improved engine service, remote diagnostics, remote start and stop capability, fuel monitoring and dispatch, reduced down time, and improved “uptime". With SCADA, you have a user-friendly system monitoring the generation plant, with the ability to automatically “call out" on alarms and shutdowns via cell phone, e-mail, or paging. This service is available to the customer twenty-four hours a day, seven days per week, three hundred and sixty-five days per year. The ability for local and remote monitoring provides “early" notification of the system’s performance, as well as information on protective relay fault viewing with timed stamped graphics, even while the service technician is proceeding to the generation plant.

SCADA advises maintenance personnel and supervisors, thus providing immediate notification to the management team. Permanent records and reports may be generated, including a complete history of events with trending and mapping available. A plant “security" feature is optional along with remote “camera" viewing. Consumption usage of electricity for the utility and generation plant is also available with respective cost per kilowatt-hour presented. Information is provided locally as well as over the internet with no proprietary software required on the server based viewing laptops. Multiple remote viewing is included allowing customers, service personnel, and technicians to view information simultaneously.
